Long Time Going Home

The travelers coat is patched and worn,
He’s walked upon the road since break of dawn.
He’s been through long forgotten ways
And had no food or drink the past two days.
The sky’s foreboding, overloading, future dim with dark foreboding.
And it’s a long time going home,
It’s a long time going home.
Once he led a mighty band
And sailed the sea beyond the sight of land.
Though rains would fall and winds would blow
His men would follow anyplace he’d go.
The world’s revolving, problem solving,
Future dim but still evolving.
And it’s a long time going home,
It’s a long time going home.
His ship was lost beneath a wave
And all were drowned only he was saved.
Now he walks upon the road,
The guilt he bears has a heavy load.
The man is seeking, never speaking,
Doomed to bear what he’s been keeping.
And it’s a long time going home,
It’s a long time going home.
